Livia McCoy began teaching STS in
1991. The course has changed through the years
in some ways, but in others has not. STS has
remained consistently focused on teaching
students how to make responsible decisions
regarding science and technology that may affect
their lives.
The current trend in science classrooms is to memorize facts
to pass tests designed to hold schools accountable for
providing a quality education. This runs counter to
society's need to be able to make informed, ethical
decisions relating to ever-changing science and technology.
In STS students learn analytical thinking skills and a
framework for making ethical decisions that will serve them
now and in the future.
Livia holds a BSE from University of Arkansas at Little Rock
and an MEd from Virginia Commonwealth University. |
